The mail outbox: the wait before an answer goes
Five minutes to catch the wrong answer, with your words back in the box when you stop it.
Every email the studio sends waits a few minutes before it leaves. You pressed Send on the wrong draft, typed a note meant for the AI into the answer, or saw a typo a second too late: in that time you can stop it, and your words come back to the box. Five minutes is the default. You can shorten the wait, lengthen it, or turn it off.
This holds for every answer: your own, a suggested one, one made from a template, a reply to a bug report, on the desk and in the iPhone app once it is out.
What you see after Send
The answer stays in the box you pressed Send in, and its words can no longer be edited. The buttons change:
- Send now sends it at once.
- Stop sending takes it back. Your words return to the box, ready to change or to throw away.
Under them a thin bar fills until the moment it goes, with the time left, such as "Goes in 4:59". The email stays open, so you can keep reading. In the mail column the row of the thread carries a clock sign and "Queued to send" with the minutes left. While an answer of a thread waits, the thread shows no new suggestion.
When the time is up, the studio sends it, keeps a copy in the server's sent folder as before, and the thread moves to Answered.
Change the wait
- Open the settings of any project that has a mailbox, under Mailboxes of this project.
- Find Wait before an answer goes.
- Choose Off, 1, 2, 5, 10 or 30 minutes.
The choice is one for the whole studio: it holds for every mailbox, on the desk and on the phone. With Off an answer goes the moment you press Send.
If the studio closes while an answer waits
The wait is kept by the studio's engine, which runs even when the window is closed. If the computer was off when an answer fell due, it goes as soon as the studio runs again. An answer is never sent twice: not by two presses, not by a restart, not by Send now pressed at the moment the wait ended.
If the studio stopped in the very middle of sending, the answer is marked as failed with the words "The studio stopped while this answer was going. It may have gone". Look in the sent folder of the mailbox before you send it again. A server that refuses an answer leaves it red with its own words, Try again and Stop sending, and an alert in the column. A failed answer is never tried again by itself.
Codes in a waiting answer
A licence key or coupon from an answer template stays held for that thread while the answer waits, and counts as sent only when it goes. Stop sending gives the code back to the box. If the template is deleted while the answer waits, its codes go back with it, and the answer fails with a note to choose the template again, rather than send a code that no longer belongs to anything.
The rest of answering mail is in Reading, tagging and answering email.
Questions
Can I turn the send delay off?
Yes. Under Wait before an answer goes, choose Off. The choice holds for every mailbox, on the desk and the phone.
Does a waiting answer go if I close the studio?
Yes. The engine keeps the wait while the window is closed. If the computer was off, the answer goes as soon as the studio runs again.
