Setting up a second Windows PC

The agent is the studio program started in a mode with no project list, only an engine and a small window.

A second Windows PC can do the work while you sit at your main one. Put the AigoPilot agent on it, pair the two, and the second PC's projects and sessions appear in the studio on the first. It suits an idle laptop with a better graphics card, or a PC that has a project's heavy tools installed, such as a Unity editor.

Download AigoPilot Agent for Windows (a zip file, AigoPilot-Agent-Windows.zip). Unzip it into a folder of its own and open aigopilot-agent.exe. The agent does nothing by itself: it works once a studio with a licence pairs with it.

Partly built. The agent works on Windows today. It has no installer yet, and its program is not signed yet: the first time you open it, Windows may say it protected your PC. Choose More info, then Run anyway.

What the agent is

It is the same program as the studio, under the name aigopilot-agent.exe (or aigopilot.exe started as aigopilot.exe --agent). In that mode it shows no project list. It runs the engine that starts and watches sessions on that PC, and gives it a small window and a sign beside the clock. The window is in English only. It runs in your own Windows session, not as a service, so programs such as the Unity editor have a screen to draw on.

The first time it listens on the network, Windows asks whether the program may use the network. Allow private networks only.

Pair it with your studio

  1. On the second PC, start the agent. Its window shows the computer's name, Ready. A studio on this network can find this computer., and its address and port.
  2. Click Show six digits.
  3. On your main PC open Settings, then Computers. Under Add a computer, click the second PC when it appears, type the six digits, and click Add.

The pairing itself is described in Pairing two computers with six digits, and what to do when the PC is on another network in Reaching your computers from another network.

What the agent's window shows

  • Studios paired with this computer, each with when it was last here and a Forget button. Forget a studio and it can no longer reach this PC, until it is paired again with new digits.
  • What a session needs on this computer: Claude Code, Codex and Grok, with Install and Sign in buttons. You can also do this from the studio, as described in Installing Claude Code and Codex on another computer.
  • A project is arriving, with a bar, the files so far, the speed, and a button that shows what it is doing. See Carrying a whole project to another computer.
  • How many sessions are working there now.

Start with Windows, and quit

Start when I sign in to this computer makes the agent come back after a restart. It adds one entry to your own user's start-up list and needs no administrator. Without it, the PC cannot be reached after a restart until someone opens the agent. Closing the window only hides it. Quit the agent stops it, and if sessions are working it asks first, with Quit and close them or Keep running.

Updates

The agent looks at aigopilot.com for a newer build about once a day, and when you click Check for updates. It installs the new build when no session is working on the PC and no program a session left open would be closed by the restart.

The studio can also send its own build. When the agent's row in the Computers window shows an older build than the studio's, an Update the agent button appears. A Windows studio sends its program to a Windows agent. The row shows Sending the new build with a percent, then the agent starts again as the new build.

Staying awake while sessions run is a setting of that computer in the same window; see Staying awake, starting with Windows, tray and backups. For the overview of working across computers, read Working on another computer.

Small tips

Hide the digits when you are done

After pairing, click Hide the digits in the agent window. They stop working after five minutes or one pairing in any case, but hiding them keeps them off a shared screen.

Forget a studio from the agent's side

The agent window lists the studios paired with it. Click Forget beside one and it can no longer reach this PC until it is paired again with new digits.

Questions

Is there an installer for the Windows agent?

Not yet. The agent is the same program as the studio, started with the option --agent. A separate installer for it is planned.

Why does the agent say its engine does not take other computers?

The studio is running on that PC and started the engine for itself. Quit the studio, then open the agent again.
