Prompts, permissions and changes from your phone

Keep a session moving from your phone: the next prompt, the permission, the stop and the new session.

Everything you do at the desk to keep a session moving, you can do from the iPhone app: send the next prompt, answer a permission, stop a turn, start a session, look at what changed. The session itself keeps running on its computer, so closing the app or losing the signal does not stop it.

Partly built. This describes the app as built. The Face ID check was only tried in the simulator, which has no face, and the app cannot be downloaded yet.

Send a prompt

Open a session and type in Message this session, then tap the arrow. Three quick replies stand above the box: Continue, Yes and What is the next step?. A prompt is kept on the phone with its own id until the computer has taken it, then it runs once. If the line is cut between writing and sending, it waits and goes by itself when the studio answers. One the tool did not take stays where you wrote it, with Send again and Remove.

Sent while a turn is running, a prompt shows In line: it goes after this turn.

Answer a permission or a question

A session that waits shows a raised hand. Tap the hand and the card Asks for permission opens. It shows the whole command, or the change as Taken out and Put in, or the plan, and a line Why it asks naming the permission group. Then choose:

  • Allow
  • Do not allow, with an optional reason the model will read
  • Do not allow, and stop

A request that deletes or cannot be undone asks you to hold Hold to allow instead of tapping. A question from the model arrives as a form with its choices, a field Another answer and Send answer.

To ask for your face or passcode before any permission is allowed or a new session starts, turn on Face or passcode before allowing and before a new session on the tab Studio.

Stop a session

While a turn runs, the arrow becomes a stop button. Tap it and choose how: Stop after this step lets the step in hand finish, Stop right now cuts the work and keeps the session, and Cut off now closes the session and every program it started.

Start a session or a project

Inside a project tap the plus. The sheet New session says which project and computer it is for. Choose Claude Code, Codex or Grok under Which one runs it?, write the first prompt, and tap Start. The box is the one of a running session, with attach, microphone and slash commands. Trying Start twice still runs the prompt once.

To add a project, tap Add project at the top left of the projects list, pick the computer, browse its folders, tap This folder is the project, and start its first session.

Continue, take over, change

The menu at the top right of a session holds Continue in a fresh session, with its estimated cost. From 60 percent of the window a line above the box offers it too, and the app takes you to the new session by itself. The same menu has What this session changed, Tasks of the session, Rename, Pin and Archive. A lone / in the box lists the tool's own commands.

In the list of changes, tap a file to read its change line by line. Press and hold a line, or choose several, and Comment on this line puts the file, the line numbers and the lines into the box as a quote before your words.

A session started in VS Code or a terminal is in the list, marked in VS Code. The phone will not continue it on its own. Press Bring it into the studio first, and if it is open somewhere else the app says so before you do. See Sessions you started in VS Code or a terminal.

Pictures and voice

The attach button beside the box takes a picture from the phone's pictures, the camera, or a file. A picture is shrunk to at most 2000 points, kept on the session's computer, and its delivery is shown under the prompt: Kept on the computer, Sent to the model, Reached the model. The microphone records, and the studio's engine writes the text into the box, which needs voice typing set up in the studio.

Small tips

Jump to the question that waits

In a long session the buttons Go to the end and Go to the question take you straight to the end of the conversation or to the request that waits.

Quote part of an answer in your next prompt

Press and hold a piece of a message and choose Quote. Select text lets you choose the part with the iPhone's handles first.

Type a slash to run the tool's own commands

A lone slash in the box lists the commands of that project's tool, with a search field, so a command such as /compact works from the phone. Codex, as the studio runs it, has none.

Questions

What happens to a prompt I send when the connection drops?

It is kept on the phone with its own id and goes by itself once the studio answers. It runs once, even if it is sent twice.

Can I continue a VS Code session from the phone?

Only after you press Bring it into the studio. The phone will not continue a session that belongs to VS Code or a terminal on its own.
