Find a session or a project by name

Two boxes that keep only what matches the letters you type, archived sessions included.

Once a project has a few dozen sessions, or the studio holds a few dozen projects, scrolling to the one you want takes longer than it should. Two boxes find them by name as you type: one above the projects, one above the sessions of the open project. They look only at names, so they answer at once and need no network.

To find a session by something that was said in it rather than by its name, use the search of the whole studio instead, described in Searching every conversation.

Find a session by name

  1. Open the project.
  2. Click the box Find a session by name at the top of its session list.
  3. Type part of the name. The list keeps only the sessions whose name holds those letters, capital or small.
  4. Press Esc to empty the box and see the whole list again.

The groups of the list stay as they are, so a working session still stands under Working. Archived sessions that match open by themselves, so a session you put away is found too. When nothing matches, the list says so. The box stays in sight while the list scrolls.

The box reads the name shown on the row, which is the name you gave the session if you gave one. That is the best reason to rename a session you will come back to; see Rename, pin and archive sessions.

Find a project by name

The projects column has its own box, Find a project by name, above the cards. It works the same way: type part of a project's name and only the matching cards stay, in the order you chose for the column. The folded lines at the end of the column, chats without a project and archived projects, open by themselves when something in them matches. Empty the box to see every project again.

On the iPhone app

The iPhone app, which is not out yet, has the same two searches with Apple's own search field: one on the list of projects, one on a project's sessions. While a name is being looked for, the row of sessions started by programs steps aside so it does not push the results down.

Which box to use

  • You remember what you called it: the box above the sessions.
  • You remember what it was about but not its name: the search at the top of the window, which reads the conversations.
  • You remember only that it was in some project, recently: open the project and look under Latest, which holds the session you worked in last when it is not working, waiting or pinned. See How a project's sessions are ordered.

Small tips

Press Esc to see the whole list again

Esc empties the box above the sessions and puts every group back, so you do not need to delete the letters one by one.

Questions

Does Find a session by name look inside conversations?

No. It reads only the name on each row. To find a session by something that was said in it, use the search box at the top of the window.
